Serving the residents of Polk, Highlands, and Hardee Counties since 1979, Good Shepherd Hospice is a nonprofit, freestanding, community-based organization. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and are driven by our mission: The mission of Good Shepherd Hospice is to provide quality palliative care and relieve the suffering of those in our communities affected by life-limiting illnesses and end-of-life issues, maintaining the highest ethical standards, so all may live as fully and comfortably as possible.
As part of our mission, we provide care to those who need it regardless of their ability to pay. While most of our patients are covered through Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance or self-pay, some of our patients have no coverage. Those patients without the ability to pay can still receive care from Good Shepherd Hospice.
In addition to direct hospice care, Good Shepherd Hospice also provides a number of helpful programs and services. These include our Caregiver Program, Camp Brave Heart and The Bethany Center for grieving children.
Good Shepherd Hospice is able to provide care for uncovered patients--as well as the many additional programs and services--through the generous support we receive from our community. Donations from individuals, businesses, foundations and clubs and organizations make it possible for us to fulfill our mission. The many memorial gifts we receive are a tribute to our patients and to the quality care they receive from our teams. We are so grateful for the generous support of our partners in the community.
